Hamble Valley Festival of Food

Pear Tree Preserves

On the 5th September 2015 Hamble Quay came to life with the hustle and bustle of food market stalls, combined with crafty accessories and fun activities for the children.

The smell of freshly baked breads, homemade pies and aromatic coffee filled the air as Hampshire Farmers Market traders prepared to open their stalls ready for the day.

Even before the festival officially opened at 10am, intrigued passers buy began to filter in and roam around the market place. The clock struck 10 and the quay sprang to life with the vibrant sounds of the St Andrews pipe band, led down the High Street by the Mayor of Eastleigh. The sounds combined with the delicious smells made a real treat for the senses.

Imagination Workshop

Once in full swing there was plenty to entertain all visitors. The demo kitchen held demonstrations on how to fillet and prepare fish, how to make use of local ingredients at home, and a tasty paella demonstration to bring a Spanish fiesta flare.

For the children there was pebble painting, imagination workouts and the Vegetable Orchestra which showed the children how they could enjoy their vegetables making homemade flutes out of carrots and courgette castanets! There were also chances to win some great prizes with a free prize draw and Grand Oyster Competition.

With free parking and free entry the Festival of Food was a popular event, with never a quiet moment. The atmosphere was lively and cheerful with many enjoying all the festival had to offer.

As the end of the festival approached at 4pm, the stall holders were left with very little but crumbs and satisfaction of what was a fantastic event. A day full of food, drink, fun and sun, the Hamble Valley Food Festival was a great day out for the whole family.

Revived from a previous event 10 years ago, the Hamble Valley Festival of Food looks set to return with organisers already planning two dates for 2016 in April and September. A welcome event that will help put Hamble Valley on the map!

The Next Hamble Valley Festival of Food will take place on the 23rd April 2016!
