An attractive small village edging Southampton Water and the expanse of Royal Victoria Country Park.

Netley lies in the parish of Hound, the name of which derives from a plant called ‘Hoarhound’ which grew profusely in the area. There are a number of places to visit within Netley including the imposing ruins of the 13th century Netley Abbey and the fascinating Heritage Centre within Royal Victoria Country Park. The Royal Victoria Steam Railway operaties through the country park on weekends and during bank holidays and school holidays with a series of special events.

Netley’s foreshore was once entirely wooded and was described by William Cobbett as ‘one of the prettiest scenes in the whole country’
