The Point and South East Dance are delighted to present Shane Shambhu Company. The Company create dynamic visual theatre rooted in the traditional South Indian dance form of Bharata Natyam. By representing the modern society we live in and depicting narratives that expose human experiences and behaviour the company creates works that stir up emotions in all of us. Through innovative physical storytelling and the use of devised characters, the company transports audiences through an emotional journey and a shared aesthetic experience to question themes of universal relevance. The company uses an organic movement language stemming from Shane Shambhu’s backgrounds in Bharata Natyam, contemporary dance and theatre. By integrating all these forms and creating a unique style of theatre, the company is re-inventing Indian dance as an approach to building theatrical performances.

An intriguing new show from choreographer Shobana Jeyasingh revisiting the past and boldly stepping into the new. Classic Cut presents Configurations, a work celebrated for outstanding use of speed and stunning detail. Created in 1988 with iconic composer Michael Nyman, it shows us a pioneering work from the very beginning of the company’s life. Nyman’s score (which became his acclaimed String Quartet No. 2) will be played live on stage. Alongside this, Jeyasingh presents an atmospheric new work that draws on the colourful theatrical genre of classical Indian dance. It features music by young composer Niraj Chag whose credits include the BAFTAnominated Simon Schama’s Power of Art series for BBC2. Classic Cut is a co-production with ROH2 and co-commissioned by The Royal Opera House and The Point. Classic Cut will be opened with a special performance by members of The Point Youth Dance Company in an exclusive project with Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company

Frankly, Ollie can't see the point of his Great Gran; and now it's even worse. She fell and hurt her hip and had to come to stay. Ollie has had to give up his room. And what can she do? She can't run, jump, skate, anything. She can hardly stand. However she can do something he can't. She can swim. In fact, she can do it rather well. There was a time she did it at the Olympic Games in London. No! Not those Olympic Games. The other ones in 1948... when the athletes had to bring their own towels!
